I’ve been a computer consultant and a programmer since 1995. I can’t imagine how difficult my job could have been (and it’s been pretty tough regardless) without the daily help of others, in the form of Google searches, message boards, wikis, and the rest of the world of online documentation and question and answer forums. (Actually I can. Twenty years ago there was CompuServ and BBS boards — that was all. Ask your father.)
I’ve never really been one to “give back to the community” (I could never find the time — still find it difficult), although I knew I would like to someday. So I came up with the idea of posting to this blog some of the solutions to the problems I encounter the course of my work day (the number is high — I’m a problem solver!).
I realize there are plenty of sites out there devoted to questions and answers concerning technical subjects. This isn’t one of them. This is simply a site with a bunch of posts on how I solved a particular problem I was having on a particular day. That said, if you ask a question, I will probably answer, assuming I have the time.
In the spirit of full disclosure, most of my posts will probably be woefully incomplete and spotted with errors. Like I said, I don’t have a lot of spare time. I’ll do my best to keep things real.
